Two decades ago, automobiles were far simpler in every respect. Ever-increasing complexity leads to recalls such as campaign 23V-654, which comprises no fewer than 272,911 pickup trucks produced by Ram with an incompatible rearview camera system and radio combination that prevents the rearview camera image from displaying in certain scenarios.
FCA US LLC became aware of said issue on April 18, with said issue affecting trucks equipped with the R1 High radio. Not that long ago (June 2022), Chrysler also called back 117,759 trucks equipped with the R1 Low radio under campaign 22V-407.

The Auburn Hills-based automaker investigated the problem from April 2023 through August 2023, determining that the rearview camera may fail internally. With rearview cameras mandatory in light-duty vehicles since May 2018, this issue causes a noncompliance with federal motor vehicle safety standard 111 (rear visibility requirements).

Two part numbers are listed in the document attached below for the suspect rearview cameras, namely 04672850AB and 04672735AD. Supplied by Valeo Niles Company, said cameras won't be replaced. A software update of the radio will suffice, or so claims the third-largest automaker of the Big Three in Detroit (as per NHTSA filings).

Owners will be informed of this recall via first-class mail on or about November 17. Those who have incurred any costs related to this problem are – obviously enough – entitled to reimbursement as long as adequate proof of payment is provided.

Regarding the recall population, the list starts with the 200,537 examples of the 2022 to 2023 model year Ram 1500. Production dates range from June 25, 2021 through August 2, 2023. The 2022 to 2024 Ram 2500 is affected to the tune of 72,359 units produced between August 7, 2021 and August 27, 2023. Last but certainly not least, the 2022 to 2023 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a GVWR of less than 10,000 pounds (4,536 kilograms) is also recalled.

Suspect cab-chassis trucks number 15 units were manufactured between December 10, 2021 and June 27, 2023. The 3500-series Cab Chassis presently retails at $52,600 (before destination fee and optional extras) for the entry-level Tradesman Regular Cab with 4x2 and 6.4-liter HEMI engine.

The 2500 is available to configure at $46,715 in the US of A, whereas $38,555 is the starting price of the 1500. If you're in the market for the most powerful internal combustion-engined truck of them all, then prepare to pony up $85,700 at the very least for the 702-horsepower TRX. The far pricier Raptor R is two ponies down and 10 pound-feet of twist down on the Hellcat-powered TRX.

Unfortunately, FCA US LLC will discontinue the Hellcat after 2024. The 2025 model year Ram 1500 TRX will switch to the high-output Hurricane, a twin-turbo sixer that puts out a Raptor-beating 510 horsepower and 500 pound-feet (678 Nm) in the Ram 1500-twinned 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
