Let's say you own a Gullwing. Ok, the chances of that are pretty slim, but what if you own some classic 911 or a fully restored '69 Charger that you poured your heart and soul into? You want to protect that investment, right? Well, here's the latest and most modern way to do so.
Ladies and gentlemen, before you lies nothing more than what I consider to be the most modern, tech-laden, and effective storage and transportation system I've come across to date. It's called the Ceres 001, and it's the work of none other than a team dubbed Cartainers.

If you didn't catch what this brand name hints at, they design and build containers for your cars, either for storage or transport. That's the beauty of what we're looking at; each Ceres can store, monitor, and transport your precious baby without your car ever needing to be exposed to the elements. Furthermore, 001s can operate autonomously for up to 72 hours, granted by a built-in battery.

Wait a minute, a garage? Operate autonomously? What the heck is going on here!?

Ok, so to make things easier to understand, I want you to imagine that the Ceres is nothing more than a showcase garage that can be transported as though it were a freight container, hence the brand name. But, it's not only meant to show your car off to the world but includes countless systems that allow you to keep an eye on your priced possession no matter where you are in the world.

Now, each Ceres has been designed to allow minimal obstruction of the views your car is bound to get. This is achieved by a minimal use of vertical beams and floor-to-ceiling polycarbonate panels - no glass - so don't worry about the jealousy you're bound to spark showing up with your '52 300 SL.

Neatly enough, the sides of each Ceres are built with two sliding doors, so whenever you feel like letting the world take a closer look at your baby, you can, and at the press of a button. Once inside, 360-degree access to vehicles can be had, and customizable lighting overhead lets you shine the right light upon your vehicle.

That's the visual side of things, but what about functionality? After all, Cartainers makes multiple mentions that their system is unlike any other; after exploring what they achieved here, I believe them, and you might end up doing so too. Let's lower the ramp door, load up your precious, and let's go!

Once you've parked your vehicle in the Ceres, it's time to secure it in place. Neatly enough, Cartainers has clearly done their research and designed the Ceres to secure your car with e-track tie-downs, so it won't really matter what you're transporting. I think locking in a Model T is going to be a hassle; other than that, if it's got four rubbers, you should be fine.

As I mentioned, if you ever want to transport your vehicle, the Ceres is to be loaded up on a plane, ship, train, or truck with your vehicle inside, and off it goes, even overseas. This is achieved by keeping the chassis of the Ceres at 20 feet (6.1 m) long and a weight of under 5,000 lbs (2,266 kg Founders Edition without a vehicle inside).

Once your vehicle is off and away to distant lands, you'll be relying on a plethora of hardware and software to keep track of everything from where your vehicle is, the internal temperature and humidity of the Ceres, climate control, and even to share a candid and visual moment through 24/7 visual monitoring. Think of the Ceres as a baby monitor for, well, your baby!

I also mentioned that this storage and showcasing solution also includes an integrated battery system that allows these features to operate for up to 72 hours, perfect for closer-range trips and power outages.

As you may have also guessed, whenever you're paying at least $50K (€46,300 at current exchange rates) for something like this - $60K (€55,600) for the Founders Edition - there's clearly an app for that, and best of all, the above-mentioned features are all to operated right from your smart device. This includes control over the lighting options, too, but my favorite trick is the whole facial recognition access bit, making you feel like you and your car really share a very personal relationship, as is normal, after all.

In short, what Cartainers and the Ceres achieve here is so much more than just a showcase or storage container; it's a downright home for what could be your most prized possession! That has to be worth something, and by the looks of things, around $50K.

So, you own some priceless piece of steel, oil, chrome, and leather, and you're looking to give it its forever home? Then here's what you've got to do: put in a $1,000 deposit for your Ceres and wait until 2025 for it to be delivered. This system is currently in its preorder stages, so you'll need to be a tad patient, like G Class patient.
