It’s only a few months since the new interpretation of the Porsche Cayenne SUV was revealed in coupe body style,  and already the Germans have announced a significant update. As of this week, both the Cayenne coupe and its conventional body-styled sibling have a new top of the range model.
Just as a plug-in hybrid car eads the Panamera range, now so does one for the SUV lineup. Porsche announced on Tuesday (August 13) the launch a new flagship in the line, the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid.

Pairing an old-fashioned internal combustion engine with an electric motor, the new model becomes the most powerful the carmaker is offering under this name.

The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid draws most of its power (550 ps) from a 4.0-liter V8 engine. It then combines that with the 136 ps generated by an electric motor, and we have a total output of 680 ps and 900 Nm of torque.

Controlled by means of an eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission, the SUV can reach 100 kph from a standstill in 3.8 seconds and achieves a top speed of 295 kph (183 mph).

In full-electric mode, the 14.1 kWh battery allows for a range of up to 40 km (25 miles), at speeds that can reach even 135 kph (84 mph) when the E-Power driving mode is selected.

The battery of the Cayenne plug-in hybrid can be recharged using a 400-volt connection in 2.4 hours, or in six hours when using 230 volts.

Aside for the introduction of the Turbo S E-Hybrid for both SUV and SUV Coupe body styles, Porsche announced the availability of a somewhat less powerful version, the Cayenne E-Hybrid, that develops 462 PS and 700 Nm of torque.

Porsche says all the new hybrid models (detailed in the document attached below) are already available for order.

In the U.S., prices for the Porsche Turbo S E-Hybrid start at $161,900 for the regular body style and $164,400 for the Coupe.
