Are the McLaren 570S and the Porsche 911 GT3 direct rivals? Of course, they're not. But this didn't keep the throttle-obsessed crew over at Evo Magazine from throwing the two at each other on the circuit.
The Zuffenhausen special and the Macca were brought together on the Rockingham Motor Speedway and, much to nobody's surprise, the typical British weather struck hard.

However, once the track finally became dry, the rear-engined toy and the mid-engined delight were put through their paces as their makers intended. As for the one behind the wheel, it was the magazine's Steve Sutcliffe who manhandled the rear-wheel-drive beasts into submission.

Now, the GT3 is nowhere near the 570S in terms of the power-to-weight ratio and this is easily reflected in the pricing gap between the two - did you ever want to live in a world where Porsches are affordable cars? Well, as it is aptly noted in the video depicting the battle, you can buy a 911 GT3 and a 718 Cayman S for the kind of money you have to pay on the 570S.

However, the handling balance of the Neunelfer is legendary, so the McLaren was fitted with the optional Track Pack in order to deliver its A-game on the circuit - note that the conditions weren't 100 percent fit for the job, though.

Well, the 911 managed to make Porschephiles happy once again, as you'll notice in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page.

Pay attention to the section of the clip that shown the in-car action and you'll notice that the 911 GT3 requires some extra countersteer work, even though the 570S does have its own tail-out moments.

As for the aural side of the battle, this is obviously dominated by the naturally aspirated flat-six of the German, so we're inviting you to turn up the volume before reaching for that "play" button.
