In the last few years, yachtsmen have shown an increased interest in expedition or explorer-style yachts, mainly due to their ability to embark on extensive long-range journeys to remote destinations and cruise in diverse weather conditions, all while still offering the luxuries of a superyacht despite their more rugged design.
A new ice-class explorer yacht able to travel from the frozen north to the frozen south has been delivered to its lucky owner and has just embarked on its maiden voyage to the Mediterranean. It's called Pink Shadow and was built by the Netherlands-based shipyard Damen Yachting.

The ice-class yacht is the third hull in the yard's SeaXplorer range, joining sisterships Anawa and La Datcha, and the first to measure 190 feet (58 meters). It is also the first SeaXplorer unit that was built at Damen's facility in Antalya, Turkey, where it also successfully completed its sea trials in April.

Pink Shadow is the result of a collaboration between naval architects at Azure Yacht Design, which created the exterior, EYOS Expedition's team of experts, and British studio Design Unlimited, which worked on the interior. Construction on the custom explorer started on speculation, but the vessel quickly found an owner who was very much involved in the design and construction process.

With a name like 'Pink Shadow,' some might expect the yacht to have a pinkish hue (or at least some accents of this color) and a delicate appearance, but in reality, it features a verdant steel hull and an imposing silhouette that will surely turn some heads.

Other noteworthy exterior features include a lightweight aluminum superstructure, extensive stretches of black glazing, and synthetic teak decking.

Despite the somewhat rugged exterior, the yacht still offers all the luxuries of a superyacht, with an impressive interior design, beautiful lounging and dining areas, and a private crew ready to cater to the guests' needs.

In terms of accommodation, Pink Shadow can sleep up to 12 guests across six lavish cabins, as well as fifteen crew members and two expedition staff.

The watercraft's bridge deck houses a sky lounge, a dining area, and a Jacuzzi, while the SeaXplorer signature observation lounge is tucked into the bow.

The lower deck is specifically designed for relaxation and socialization, boasting an expansive infinity pool, a cabana-style bar, and plenty of lounging space. For easy and convenient transportation, the aft deck is dedicated to a helipad.

To keep everyone onboard entertained and allow them to play around in the water, Pink Shadow can carry an impressive arsenal of toys and tenders, including two multi-use tenders, motorcycles, vehicles for both on- and off-road use, and a custom 37-foot sailboat..

The growing interest in explorer yachts is fueled by the owners' and guests' curiosity and desire to reach isolated destinations of our planet. Visiting the untouched islands of the Galapagos or whale watching in Antarctica are now on the bucket list of many yacht owners. We don't know where Pink Shadow's owner plans to go next, but the yard mentions they intend to use the cruiser for "globetrotting exploration."

Thanks to the ice-class hull and the yacht's ability to remain at sea for 30 days at a time, the owner will surely enjoy unforgettable adventures. The fact that the Pink Shadow explorer promises to offer a range of 5,000 nautical miles (9,260 km) at 11.5 knots (13 mph or 21 kph) also helps.
