With the 3008 out of the way, as the third generation was unveiled at the beginning of the month, Peugeot can now concentrate its efforts on bringing its larger sibling to market. We're talking about the all-new 5008, which will replace the outgoing six-year-old version.
Recently caught testing in prototype form, the new one looks less funky yet similarly stylish. The nose is not that tall anymore, it features a new pair of slender headlights and has a closed-off grille.
The roofline is a bit more arched behind the C-pillars, and the rear overhang appears to be a bit longer. This tells us that despite the slightly sportier profile, it should have at least as much luggage behind the rear seats as its predecessor, though our bet would be on a bigger cargo area altogether.
The rear license plate was moved from the tailgate to the bumper, which is chunkier on the next-gen, and due to the thick camouflage, it is almost impossible to make out the shape of the new taillights. However, they should be similar, to some extent, to those of the smaller new-gen 3008, and they will probably sport the Peugeot emblem in between, above the 5008 (E-5008 on the EV) logo.
Notice the lack of tailpipes? This, together with the apparent closed-off design of the new grille, makes us believe we're looking at the all-new E-5008, with the prefix standing for Electric. The all-new model is likely to be underpinned by the STLA Medium platform, which is currently the foundation stone of the 3008. The larger vehicle will, therefore, share many components with its smaller sibling, and that could include certain powertrains.
It is too early to speak about the assemblies powering the new E-5008, but it could mirror the range of the E-3008, which does up to 435 miles (700 km) on a full charge. More importantly, besides the electric powertrains that will make the all-new E-5008 futureproof, at least for the next few years, it will also be offered with a range of internal combustion units. Details about them are also unknown, but you should expect partially electrified lumps as well, and likely a plug-in hybrid derivative bridging the gap between the ICE and the EV lineups.

We expect a similarly styled dashboard panel with dual screens hidden behind a single pane of glass mounted on top. It should also have a large center console and pretty much the same knobs and buttons. That's our two cents anyway, and we should find out if we're right or not in the coming months when the model debuts. Speaking of which, it is probably due next year.
