Volvo’s V40 hatchback has gained some chunky-looking plastic body cladding, as is the trend nowadays, as well as a raised ride height, to create the V40 Cross Country. With it, the Swedish manufacturer aims to rival (and surpass) other soft roaders, such as the Audi Q3, or the BMW X1.
Now, aside from the extra bits of plastic, it also gets a revised grille and front bumper, as well as side and rear skid plates, for when the going gets tough. Under the bonnet, it shares its engine range, with its road-orriented sibling, the regular V40. All engines come with stop start as standard, with the notable being the D2 diesel, which emits just 99 g/km of CO2, and the range-topping T5, which gets Volvo’s excellent-sounding 2.5-liter engine, which sends its power to all four wheels.

Expect it to go on sale near the end of the year, priced around €1,300 above the regular V40 hatchback.
