It might be the fastest and most powerful Astra we’ve ever seen, and it might have a coupe body shape, but from where we stand the new OPC has very little chance of success if it really is priced at about €34,200 like Opel originally announced. That’s a massive gap compared to the Megane RS and on par with stuff like the Golf R.
However, the numbers the car put down are impressive enough for us to give it a second glance. The main selling point for the Astra OPC is its engine, a 2.0-liter which puts out 280 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque.

That gives it a specific output of 140 horsepower per liter, compared to the old car which only had 120 horsepower per liter.

Fuel consumption has also been reduced by 12 percent to 8.1 liters per 100 km (previously 9.2 l/100km), while CO2 emissions have been reduced by 14 percent in comparison to the predecessor - 189 grams compared to 221 grams.

That’s enough for a sprint from zero to 100km/h in just six-point-zero seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.

Other performance enhancements include a mechanical limited slip differential, Brembo brakes high performance struts (HiPerStruts) on the front wheel suspension and the mechatronic FlexRide chassis system.
