The Opel Adam is still a relatively fresh car, but in order to stay competitive, new tech is being added all the time. Just as everybody is concentrating on their new Polish-built Cascada convertible, the Germans have announced two major changes: a convertible roof called Swing Top and a new automatic.
The Adam Swing Top is available for the price of €14,990 as a standalone model. It uses the same folding fabric roof offered by the Adam Rocks, giving you an open-air feeling in as little as 5 seconds. The roof retracts to the C-pillar at the touch of a button and can be closed even at highway speeds (up to 140 km/h).

We think it's a great idea to order one, especially since it doesn't block your rear visibility when it's rolled back, like the one on the Fiat 500 does.

The first automatic Opel Adam

Another innovation is the Easytronic 3.0, which is the first automatic ever available on the Adam. You can order it in combination with an 87 hp 1.4-liter naturally aspirated engine and Opel says it will actually decrease fuel consumption by up to 0.4 liters per 100 kilometers for the combined cycle compared to a five-speed manual transmission.

It's also very cheap to order, costing only 600 euros extra, tax included. But there's a problem. Opel might hate us for this, but we're not sure we can recommend their auto, since it's an automated manual, the only system that's light and compact enough for this type of car. From the Fiat 500 to the old Smart, this setup has proven jerky and unpleasant, far outweighing the benefit of not having to row the gears yourself.

Still, this 3.0 unit is new, having just been introduced to the 2015 Corsa. So it could be better than everybody else's. But don't order one without first doing a test drive.

“These new attractive possibilities will further strengthen our large ADAM family and give everybody the opportunity to configure their personal ADAM favorite,” explained Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group. “The choice of colors is growing too. We have added new colors in ‘Forget about Grey’ and ‘Greenfellas’( the color in the photos). Therefore, customers can choose from 19 different bodywork colors now.”
