2017 Chrysler Town & Country Confirmed for 2016 Detroit Auto Show Debut

The posher sibling of the Dodge Grand Caravan is set to receive an all-new generation at next year’s edition of the North American International Auto Show. In a recent tweet from @FCAcorporate, the Fiat-Chrysler Group states that “New @Chrysler #minivan will be seen in January 2016, Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne says. #NAIAS.” Need more proof?

Back in December, old man Sergio told that the next-gen Chrysler Town & Country will arrive in dealer inventory in the next “24 to 30 months,” an official statement that further confirms that the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit will be the place of unveiling for the new generation.

Alas, the sixth-gen Chrysler Town & Country minivan will be a 2017 model year, not a 2016 model year as previously rumoured. As we speak, the Windsor Assembly plant in Canada is extended with the help of a 600-ton crane, tasked to install heavy structural metal for a brand new conveyor enclosure.

And you’ve guessed what this is all about - this conveyor enclosure may be used to produce the all-new minivan. To boot, FCA US LLC announced at the end of 2014 that the Windsor Assembly plant will close for 14 weeks starting from February 2015. That timeframe will be used to revamp the factory with new manufacturing tools “in preparation for production of a future model.”

Regarding what’s there in store from the next-gen family hauler, do expect the following highlights: an update of the Pentastar V6, expected to add turbocharging technology and direct injection, as well as a 75 to 95 MPGe plug-in hybrid variation according to Al Gardner, Chrysler’s chief executive officer.
