Despite numerous conferences to announce grandiose plans, the carmaking machine that is Fiat seems to be running out of steam. The Italian company was among the hardest hit when the European economic crisis hit, its sales plummeting by more than half. New cars like a replacement for the Linea sedan and a successor to the Punto are on the agenda, but it appears they will be preceded by a facelift for the 500.
The smallest out of all the Fiats seems to be the most popular and despite this generation being 7 years old, the company is planning a facelift, not a complete refresh.

Reports from Italy indicate the 500 facelift could be ready to debut by the end of the year, offering even cuter design and an up-to-date interior. We could criticize Fiat for going with a facelift, but both the new Opel Corsa and Ford Fiesta are re-engineered versions of the old models, so it's a common practice.

There's nothing particularly wrong with the Fiat 500. The base 1.2-liter engine, it weights only 865 kilograms (dry), so it's actually just as light as newer competitors, like the Toyota Aygo and the Smart Forfour. But we can't help wonder how safe this 2007 car is in 2015.

Cosmetic changes on the 500 facelift will be subtle, mainly targeting the headlights and front fascia. LED lighting Inside, buyers can look forward to a fresh Uconnect infotainment system as well as fresh colors and upholstery combinations. All these changes can be seen in the latest renderings created by Design RM, which you can check out in the gallery below.

The 500 facelift is not a city car for us. But if when getting up in the morning your biggest question is "what should I wear?" or "does this skirt match my purse?" it may be for you.
