With over 161 million views since it first launched on December 5, 2023, the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer has created more hype and anticipation than any other media product in history. It even shattered Mr. Beast's record for most views in 24 hours on YouTube. People are still discovering new things and concocting all sorts of theories. Most recently, some folks even managed to recreate the trailer in 3D engines or even in other games.
YouTube user "pyro_lc" has faithfully recreated the entire GTA 6 trailer inside Cyberpunk 2077. Every scene overlaps more or less adequately, and for a channel with under 1,000 subs, it's quite an effort.
Of course, the person used mods like "Otis_inf's camera tools," "Appearance Menu mod," "FreeFly mod," and "CyberEngine Tweaks." While the overall presentation is commendable, the only downside that attracted criticism was the low quality of the graphics from Cyberpunk 2077.
It's glaringly apparent that the modder didn't have a state-of-the-art computer with Nvidia 4000 series to run Cyberpunk at Ultra Settings with Ray Tracing dialed up to 11. It's not a knock on the trailer recreation but more of a "what could have been" sort of scenario. But now that this was made, it certainly opened the floodgates for future similar "reenactments." Here's hoping for a Skyrim feature.
Another "copycat" took it in a completely different direction. A user called "Dark Space" on YouTube recreated the GTA 6 trailer in "graybox." In game development, "grayboxing" typically stands for a barely conceived level design, where everything is being built using blocks, typically gray, so the developers can experiment without any polish.
The interesting thing is that Dark Space didn't recreate the trailer scene for scene, but they tried to map the Leonida (in-game Florida) based on the official footage combined with Google Earth elements and leaked map documents.
Some of the most exciting theories that came out of the 3D simulation were that GTA 6 could feature parodies of places like the Bermuda Triangle, Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, SeaWorld Orlando, or the Kennedy Space Center.
This sounds really exciting because not only would you get to visit these places in-game with advanced graphics, but also because they're reenvisioned by Rockstar, which is always good for a laugh.
According to Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI is supposed to be released in 2025. However, in the past, their games were no strangers to numerous delays. Hopefully, this won't be the case here as well.
To quote the great Gabe Newell, aka Gaben, president of Valve, "Late is just for a little while. Suck is forever."
Not to put the shame spotlight on anyone in particular, but 2023 saw its fair share of underdeveloped games like Redfall, Starfield, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Atomic Heart, Crime Boss: Rockay City, Forza Motorsport, Payday 3, Skull Island: Rise of Kong, The Last of Us Part I (PC), The Walking Dead: Destinies, and many others.
