When converting a van into a mobile home, it's critical to use every single inch available. And when you're dealing with a base vehicle with a short wheelbase, it's even more challenging to fit all the features you want and need. However, with some creativity, you can develop clever design solutions. Today, I'm checking out a tiny home on wheels filled with these types of solutions.
Meet Anjali and her camper van, which is based on a 2014 Ram ProMaster 2500. One of the major reasons she chose the ProMaster as the base vehicle is the extra width (compared to other van models) that allows her to sleep side-to-side.

I'm aware many of you are interested in the costs of building a camper van, so I'll start with that. In Anjali's case, she bought the base vehicle for $30,000 (€27,984) and invested $10,000 (€9,329) into the conversion, bringing the total cost of the build to $40,000 (€37,312). However, she kept the conversion costs low by getting the wood from her dad's shop.

This isn't Anjali's first camper van project. She channeled all of the insights and knowledge she gained from her first build into this one. This is part of the reason why it turned out to be a fantastic tiny home on wheels. By the way, Anjali travels and lives together with her two large dogs.

There's not much to discuss regarding the van's exterior. It's finished in a run-of-the-mill white paint and has no visible elements that hint toward its camper DNA. That makes it perfect for stealth camping.

Pop the sliding door open, and you'll discover a beautifully designed interior. It boasts a rather uncommon dark aesthetic - I'm a big fan of dark interiors, but it seems that brighter ones are the go-to for specialized van converters and DIY builders alike.

This van comes with black cabinetry paired with various wood accents, with the look complemented by a wood ceiling and white shiplap panel walls. What's more, Anjali opted for a closed layout, meaning she separated the driver's cabin from the living space using a wall with a sliding door. She did so because she wanted more privacy and less light coming in through the driver's cabin.

This wall holds a sizeable mirror on the part near the main door. Furthermore, underneath, you'll notice a dog gate that can be swung closed.

The middle part of the interior is occupied by the kitchen, which is split into two parts. It features a counter integrating a cabinet and a deep sink on the passenger side, while the other part consists of a larger countertop with many drawers and a two-burner stove, as well as three spacious overhead cabinets.

The largest drawer houses an enormous dual-zone fridge/freezer. Moreover, Anjali ensured the drawers remained closed while on the road by installing a magnetic lock setup. She uses a small magnet to unlock each of the drawers. Some nice design touches are leather handles for the drawers and "twig handles" for the upper cabinets.

Next up, we have the lounge, which is comprised of two benches, one on each side, with a swivel table in between them. The one on the driver's side houses the rig's power system – its highlights are 200 Ah batteries, an inverter, and a solar charge controller connected to 400 W solar panels on the roof. On the opposite side, the bench hides a slide-out toilet.

Here's where things get interesting. The space underneath the bed serves as a resting place for Anjali's dogs. However, she can fold the bed's mattress, lift a huge panel, and latch it into place, and this spot becomes a shower. There's a shower head attached to the bottom part, and the water flows through a drain in the floor. Moreover, hooks mounted to the ceiling allow Anjali to hang a curtain to ensure she doesn't splash water around.

To make the showering experience even better, Anjali installed a recirculating system made up of a series of pumps. It allows her to take really long hot showers, something some van dwellers can only dream about. By the way, a 22-gallon (83-liter) freshwater connected to a heater provides water inside this rig. Because of the recirculating system, Anjali refills the tank once every one and a half weeks.

And finally, we have the bedroom. It features a full-size mattress, three overhead cabinets, and a Maxxair fan above. What's more, just like the shower panel, the rear part of the bed frame can be lifted up to transform the bed into a couch.

You might've noticed that the bed is positioned higher up. Anjali devised it this way to make room for a garage underneath. In the garage, she holds, among other stuff, a propane locker, the freshwater tank, and a slat wall with various hooks for more convenient storage.

All in all, Anjali managed to build a fantastic tiny home on wheels. It looks great, is very practical, and packs a lot of features considering its compact size.
