The Trans Am was already the star of the Firebird show in 1978, so the other models in the series didn't even get close to matching its sales performance.
The Trans Am sales exceeded 93,000 units, accounting for more than half of all Firebird sales for this model year. The Esprit was the next choice in terms of popularity, convincing close to 37,000 customers to take it home. The base Firebird dropped to 32,671 units, while the Formula production included only 24,346 units.

The top choices in terms of Formula Engine were the LG5 305 and the LM1 350, accounting for approximately 17,000 cars. The rarest choice was the L78 paired with the W72 package, whose production included close to 1,700 units.

A 1978 Firebird Formula made its way to eBay earlier this week, and compared to many projects I've highlighted lately, this one doesn't require anything other than minor TLC.

The Pontiac Firebird has one major selling point: the mileage. Seller shelbycuda64 explains that the car has just 37,000 miles on the clock, and considering it has never been restored, it's very close to becoming a collector's dream with the right restoration.

The Formula still wears the original paint, but it shows its age. There's rust around the rear glass, but the damage doesn't look critical. Not now, at least, as the vehicle needs a new home to receive bodywork and good shelter away from rain, snow, and heavy sunlight.

The 305 engine under the hood starts and runs properly. It's the original unit that came with the car and is paired with an automatic transmission.

I won't comment too much on the car's condition, as anyone can explore most details in the provided photos, but it looks like an easy project that requires minor work to return to the road as a daily driver. It's unclear if the vehicle is completely original, but it's one of the most pressing questions a potential buyer should ask before committing to a purchase.

Otherwise, the Firebird Formula ticks most boxes for an intriguing restoration candidate. The low miles are a bonus, and the lack of major rust problems allows anyone to get a head-turning daily driver they can later turn into a unique Firebird.

The owner is willing to let the car go for $13,900, but the Make Offer button has also been enabled for potential buyers interested in a different deal. The Firebird can be found in the metro Detroit area, and the buyer should theoretically be able to drive it anywhere on its wheels. The listing will expire in approximately 12 days, so you have more than a week to convince your SO you need a new Firebird in the family.
