No Kia EcoDynamics Sub-Brand for the U.S.

At last year’s Frankfurt Auto Show, Kia decided to launch an eco sub-brand that would include all its future tree-hugging vehicles under the EcoDynamics badge.

Now, the company’s U.S. division announced that the EcoDynamics badge won’t be brought to the country, even though it previously announced that this was created as a global entity as wardsauto reports.

A Kia Motors America executive told the aforementioned source that the company doesn’t want to create another brand in the country as the move would need additional resources, adding that it prefers to allocate this for top-priority areas.

Considering that the creation of this sub-brand wouldn’t have required serious resources, we can say that the decision has been taken due to marketing reasons.

One of the reasons for canceling the move might be the fact that Kia wants to strengthen its overall image. This means that the automotive producer will offer all its assets, whether we are talking about top dynamic or eco-friendliness, under one brand.

However, Kia still plans to introduce the fuel efficiency-enhancing elements that can be found on EcoDynamics vehicles sold on other markets to the country. Some of these are already available in the U.S. and include low-rolling resistance silica tires, electric power steering and an intelligent alternator that consumes less power.

One of the future U.S. eco moves for the South Korean automotive producer will be the introduction of a hybrid version for the redesigned 2011 model year Optima midsize sedan.
