Kia has brought a “green” version of the Cee’d hatchback to the Geneva Auto Show, meant to be an ambassador for the brand’s “EcoDynamics” fuel-efficient line-up.
The car is based on the five-door version of the Cee’d and manages to return a CO2 emissions figure of 98 grams per kilometer. This can be translated into an 11 percent reduction in emissions, compared to the current cleanest model in the Cee’d range. The latter has a CO2 emissions figure of 110 grams/kilometer.
The EcoDynamics Cee’d is powered by a 1.6 liter diesel unit producing 90 HP at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 235 Nm, available from 1,900 to 2,750 rpm. The unit has received a bespoke ECU remap and it now features a different fuel injection management. Its alternator and water pump have been redesigned, in order to achieve an improved efficiency.
In addition to that, the engine uses a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). It is mated to a re-engineered gearbox that features an increased top gear ratio. Both the engine and the gearbox use low-viscosity lubricants. The car also uses a Stop and Go system and an electric power steering system.
The vehicle’s suspension has been lowered by 15mm, while its 16 inch rims have been wrapped in low rolling resistance Michelin tires. The car uses an airflow-optimising underfloor while each of its wheels gets air deflectors. These are complemented by a tailgate spoiler.
The car’s driver is encouraged to adopt an eco driving style, through the use of an optimum gearshift time indicator.
