She recently sat down with Nissan’s Executive Vice President, Andy Palmer, to discuss the Leaf’s battery issue.

Now, regarding the battery issue, Palmer says that the four main parameters which are taken into consideration when releasing the numbers for the Leaf’s battery degradation are: speed and type of driving (lots of highway driving will wear the battery out quicker), the frequency of fast charges (Nissan recommends just one per day), annual mileage (Nissan considers 12,500 miles as an accurate average) and, of course, climate.
When asked about an upgrade to the Leaf’s battery, Palmer said ‘theoretically yes’, arguing that they would prefer to reengineer the battery at a cell level, instead of having to make an entirely new module. Again, as is most often the case, we will have to wait and see.
