Word has it the next Mitsubishi Evo could arrive with a hybrid drivetrain that will send no less than 500 BHP to the ground.
According to Autocar, the eleventh-generation Evo will inherit technology directly from the MiEV Evolution II Pikes Peak race car to become a rival to the high-performance Nissan GT-R. While no specs have been unveiled, it’s rumored that the new Evo is likely to be influenced by the Mitsubishi Concept-RA, which was shown at the Detroit Auto Show back in 2008.
However, the vehicle is far from a certainty, Autocar adds, and its production may depend on market acceptance of the company’s new plug-in hybrid PHEV technology, which will included models such as the Lancer and the Outlander.
The new Mitsubishi Lancer PHEV will feature a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and two electric motors that are said to return at least 150 mpg UK (1.8 liters/100km / 125 mpg US).
