Ford is set to double the production of the 2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, with the move coming as a reaction to the surging demand for petrol-electric power.
Raj Nair, Ford’s Vice President of Global Product Development explained that while the current MKZ Hybrid accounted for 20 percent of the model’s overall production, from the 2014 Model Year onwards the figure will sit at 40 percent.
A report released by the Electric Drive Transportation Administration shows that car companies have sold 18.3 percent more hybrid in the first half of the current year - we are talking about 257,635 units.
Ford leads this growth, having seen its hybrid vehicle sales increase by almost 16 percent, a 12 percent boost compared to 2012. The Blue Oval currently offers three hybrid models, the C-Max, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.
Speaking of the 2014 MKZ, this is set to go on sale later in the year, with the price reaming unchanged from the 2013 model. The vehicle is offered for the same price as the petrol model, $35,925.
