New Volkswagen Beetle on the Road

Ever since Monday, automotive fans are experiencing butterflies in their stomachs. Volkswagen has pulled the wraps off the new Beetle, one that, hopefully, will come closer to the original one in terms of success and legacy than the generation still on sale.

The new Beetle, having left behind all the shortcomings of the current generation (at least as far as we can tell so far) is now at the center of media attention, being probably the most anticipated model released on the week of the two major auto shows, the one in Shanghai and the one in New York.

Below this text, you'll get the chance to experience the new model on the move, after on Monday we brought you the official images of the car and on Tuesday we told you that the configurator for the car is up and running.

Before you jump to the video, a quick recap of what the new Beetle will be all about. For the new generation, Volkswagen put all its power at work, in the hope that this one will be remembered decades from now, just like the orginal version.

Several new engines will power the model, starting, at launch, with the 2.0l TFSI and the 2.0l TDI. Design wise, a more aggressive stance, provided by the bulkier lines, is hoped to attract more customers, maybe even a male or two, to the nameplate.

Three trim levels will be offered, Beetle, Design and Sport, each fitted with unique features like Bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights or Keyless Access locking and engine starting system.
