At full maturity, the Porsche 911 lineup holds north of twenty derivatives. Well, if you walk into a Porsche showroom today, you'll only be greeted by four, namely the 911 Carrera S and 4S, along with their Convertible versions. And while the base Carreras are set to land soon, I'm more excited about the model that should come after that, namely the 911 Turbo.
We've been spying the 992 Porsche 911 Turbo prototypes since last year, with these having shown up in both Coupe and Cabriolet form.

In fact, you can check out a canvas top prototype doing its thing on the Nurburgring thanks to the piece of spy footage at the bottom of the page - you'll even get to see the Porscha hunting down the next BMW M3 at the 1:32 point of the clip.

Keep in mind that a photo appearing to showcase the eight-generation Neunelfer Turbo inside the Zuffenhausen factory has leaked online earlier this year. Nevertheless, the pic probably showcased a model fitted with the rumored Aerokit, as indicated by the heftier rear wing.

On the tech front, we should see the German automotive producer retiring the 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six of the 991.2 model, despite the unit packing tech goodies such as variable geometry turbochargers and an air-based anti-lag system. The new eight-speed PDK will receive a bespoke incarnation for the Turbo.

We could see the Turbo S badge morphing into the Turbo S E-Hybrid, as it has happened with the Panamera and the Cayenne (the latter hasn't made its debut yet). Nevertheless, we might have to wait for the ".2" mid-cycle revamp to see this happening.

Speaking of the Nordschleife, the serious performance boost brought by the generation change should see the 911 Turbo entering the sub-7 Nurburgring club.

Oh, and while we're talking 992 derivatives that are almost ready to be taken out of the oven, here's some spy media showcasing the next GT3
