Rumors about Honda producing a new Type R have been floating around for quite a while and now we’re back with a new one: it seems that Honda will officially confirm the hot hatch at the Paris Motor Show in September.
Honda insiders told autocar about the upcoming announcement, but didn’t offer any details about the car. The biggest question is the one that targets the engine compartment and there’s very little info available.
Honda could upgrade the engine of the last Type-R, but this was pulled off the market before the rest of the Civic versions, due to the fact that it didn’t meet emission standards. The carmaker could also follow the current trend in the hot hatch segment, which would mean introducing a downsizing turbocharged powerplant.
However before the new Type R arrives, Honda will launch a warm hatch version of the Civic, which should use the Type S designation.
