While the all-new 5 Series was unveiled in Sedan form in May, BMW decided to delay the Touring (Station Wagon) introduction. But we already know (almost) everything about it, including what powers it, as it is the same car as the four-door model, and how it will look.
The latter part is obvious, as it will be identical to the four-door 5er up to the front pillars. Further back, it will have an extended roofline ending above the nicely shaped tailgate and different side windows, complete with the Hofmeister kink. The rear lighting signature will be similar, too.

But how do we know that? First of all, due to the numerous spy shots of the car, and second, thanks to a set of leaked patent drawings. Those images came from a UK government website, and they recently had their pixels reinterpreted by the peeps at Kolesa, who tried to draw a clearer picture of what we should expect from a design perspective.

Thus, the renderings shared in the gallery above are on the realistic side, and they reveal the obvious styling of the upcoming model that will continue to take on the likes of the Mercedes E-Class Estate and Audi A6 Avant. That will also apply to their AMG and Audi Sport performance versions, namely the E 63 Estate and the RS 6 Avant, respectively, as the all-new five-door 5er will also give birth to a full-blown M derivative.

The last time we saw an M5 Touring was in the E61 generation, aka the V10-powered one. For the upcoming M5 Sedan and Touring, BMW has prepped an electrified powertrain. Chances are it is a modified version of the hybridized 4.4-liter V8 engine used on the XM, which is expected to steam out close to 800 metric horses (789 hp/588 kW). If that's the case, then it will probably sprint to sixty miles per hour (97 kph) in just under three seconds and could top out at over 190 mph (305 kph).

In addition to the punchy electrified V8, the 5 Series Touring will also be offered with four- and six-cylinder plug-in hybrid engines and with a few mild-hybrid setups, just like the new 5 Series Sedan. And as you already know, an i5 electric variant is also in the pipeline. Or better said, at least two of them, in the eDrive40 and M60 xDrive configurations, boasting 335 hp (340 ps/250 kW) and 590 hp (598 ps/440 kW), respectively.

While the M3 Touring is not being marketed in the United States, that might change when it comes to the upcoming M5 Touring. Rumors also indicate the possible launch of the regular 5 Series Touring and i5 Touring in our market, too, but we'll take them with a pinch of salt.
