There’s nothing more quintessentially British than a roadster. That’s what MG was good at back in the day, and the last model they made before closing a couple of years ago was the TF, also a drop-top.
Unfortunately, the roadster market isn’t what it used to be, and even the ultra successful Mazda MX-5 is getting a little help from Fiat. The problem these days with roadsters that that people would much rather have crossover.
Chinese-owned British automaker MG is rectifying the situation by making a drop-top crossover that will be designed after the Icon Concept.
The styling will be retro, which should attract MINI buyers. Another selling point will be the low starting price of about £14,000, or $22,000 at today’s exchange rate. Unfortunately, under the bonnet, all you’ll get for the money will be a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with about 110 PS.
