A study made by global advisory firm KMPG LLP found that Mercedes-Benz is the most trusted premium car manufacturer most associated with autonomous driving technology.
The study comes as no surprise after the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Intelligent Drive concept – released at this year Frankfurt Motor show – took a 104 km (65 miles) drive completely with no driver assistance in Germany back in August.
Not only that, but part of the technology used in the concept car is already available on the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class and on the 2014 E-Class facelift range. The Stuttgart manufacturer has also announced that it will offer a completely autonomous driving option on its car by the year 2020. On top of it, the German manufacturer has been at the forefront of self-driving cars for almost three decades now.
The legal and also philosophical problems arising from such a technology being available to the public remain though, as maybe too many people have been scared by stories like the Skynet becoming self aware in the Terminator movies and the fact that a machine can take control over a person's driving is still seen as a bit of a tabu in most car markets.
