With Dieter Zetsche being the only human inside the Ruby Black S 500 that literally drove itself onto the Mercedes-Benz stand, we can pretty much call it a day and say that the future is here.
The Mercedes-Benz S 500 Intelligent Drive is the latest and consequently the most advanced three-pointed star wearer to be completely autonomous. Not only that, but the most of the technology inside the concept car is already available in the current Mercedes-Benz flagship sedan - the recently launched W222 S-Class.
Back in August, the S 500 Intelligent Drive was also the first autonomous vehicle to recreate the 104 km (65 miles) route between Mannheim and Pforzheim, which most automotive anoraks remember as the first long distance drive made by a modern automobile in history.
Although still a concept, the car is so close to production that it could probably be sold tomorrow without a single technical modification, but there would probably a great deal of legislation headaches to be had by the Germans. Meanwhile, why don't you check out the official unveil of the car in the following gallery.
