There are cars on the used car market that sell in a heartbeat. People queue to get their hands on it, and the bidding amount skyrockets within days or even hours. And then there is this Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6x6.
This is a vehicle that you can't just park in any underground parking lot out there. It doesn't fit an outdoor parking spot either, you have to get two. It can’t squeeze through many of the European streets, not to mention the super cramped Monaco, the European paradise of exotics. But it's not made for that. It is made for the great wild, for the sand dunes outside Dubai, for the wide boulevards of Hollywood, too.

It's got six wheels displaced across three axles, it is 231.3 inches (5,875 millimeters) long, 83.1 inches (2,110 millimeters) wide, and 87 inches (2,210 millimeters) tall. Only truck drivers sit higher. The exotic contraption has a ground clearance of 18.1 inches (460 millimeters) and can go through waters that are 39.4 inches (1,000 millimeters) deep.

If you go all illegal parking around the city, authorities might have a problem in towing away your monster. It weighs 9,050 pounds (4,105 kilograms). That's something that not many tow trucks can brag about being able to lift.

And then, there is fuel consumption, the taxes, and, of course, the price. Those are factors that must be disconcerting for anyone who would dare to dream of driving the colossal Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6x6. Keep in mind that you are dealing with a vehicle that is powered by the twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine that delivers 536 horsepower (544 metric horsepower) and 560 lb-ft (758 Newton meters) of torque.

All those go straight to all three axles: 30 percent to the front wheels, 40 percent to those rolling in the middle, and 30 percent to the rear through the seven-speed AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic automatic transmission, the dual-range transfer case, and a pair of driveshafts, with five electronic differentials involved, all controllable via three switches that Mercedes installed in the center console, close at hand for the driver.

This vehicle ain't going racing, that's for sure. It takes 7.8 seconds to reach 60 mph (97 kph) from a standstill and can only go as fast as 100 mph (161 kph). And that surely is more than enough for a six-wheeler loaded with 'ammunition.'

Mercedes-Benz stopped building the giant two years after it started, back in 2013. The vehicles rolled out the production line at the Magna Steyr center in Austria. Nobody knows the exact number of vehicles that drove through the gates of the factory, but they should be around 100.

Most of them ended up… where else but the Middle East? That is why Mercedes fitted the vehicle with a central tire inflation system. Once you hit the sand, you must deflate that rubber to get the necessary traction.

And that's the case for the example that we have right here. It first arrived in Dubai, then was imported into the US and federalized by G&K Automotive Conversion of Santa Ana, California in January 2014.

The model has been sitting on the used car market for ages. We reported about it back in September. But the bidding did not reach the reserve. So, it is still there, waiting for a new home and for the owner who has the courage to drive it home.

A decal on the underside of the hood confirms that the Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6x6 was modified to comply with the regulations of the US EPA Emission Control Regulations. There is also a letter from NHTSA that states that the vehicle arrived in the US under a 'show or display' exemption. That limits the road use to 2,500 miles (4,023 kilometers) per year. The odometer only shows 7,000 miles (11,265 kilometers) at the moment, with approximately 2,000 (3,219 kilometers) of them being added under the current ownership.

Potential buyers must also know that the vehicle must be made available for inspection by NHTSA until it is 25 years old. So, that leaves the future owner with 15 more years of inspections.

The model is finished in Design Mystic White over Design Classic Red and Black Exclusive leather upholstery, with tons of carbon fiber everywhere. It rides on 18-inch Hutchinson deadlock wheels with a black finish and 37x12.50" Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 tires.

It has been through Service A and B maintenance procedures, has all fluids changed. There are a clean Carfax report, a clean Montana title, also a clean history in Arizona, New Jersey, and Florida since the initial entry in 2014. Manufacturer literature and service records are also part of the sale.

The car is still listed on eBay. With 13 days left to the end of the auction, the bidding hit $1,225,000. That price doesn't exactly make it like a ‘nobody wants it’ kind of vehicle, though. At the moment, there is a lien on the truck. The lender will have to be paid off first before the title can be transferred to the new owner. Doesn't that sound like trouble in paradise?
