Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance Arrives in Australia With 831 HP and Eye-Watering Price

Having been unveiled almost two years ago, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is yesterday's news, but it has just arrived in Australia, and it's here to stay. The hyper sedan boasts a jaw-dropping amount of power and is nicely equipped, though your pockets will have to be really deep to afford it.
According to the German automaker, the GT 63 S E Performance starts at AU$399,900. That equals US$261,503 at today's exchange rates, and the starting price excludes all on-road costs, like the stamp duty and registration fee, and also the dealer delivery.

The icing on the cake is the ubiquitous 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8, which is aided by an electric motor that that sits on the rear axle in this case. The peak output is rated at 620 kW (831 hp/843 ps), and it has over 1,400 Nm (1,033 lb-ft) of torque on tap. Mercedes-AMG says the 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) acceleration takes as little as 2.9 seconds. The 200 kph (124 mph) mark is hit in less than ten seconds after taking off, and flat-out, it can do 316 kph (196 mph).

A nine-speed automatic transmission delivers the thrust to the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. The car also features rear-axle steering for quicker cornering at high speeds and improved maneuverability at low speeds. Tipping the scales at 89 kg (196 lbs), the battery has a 6.1 kWh capacity. It can be charged via the 3.7 kW on-board AC charger at public stations, wall boxes, or household sockets and enables an all-electric range of 12 km (7.5 miles).

Stuff such as the exclusively-styled front apron visually separates the GT 63 S E Performance from the rest of the family. The car also gets wider outer air intakes, a different diffuser, and trapezoidal quad exhaust pipes. The E Performance logos on the front fenders point out the obvious hybrid drive of the hyper sedan and round off the makeover on the outside.

In the cabin, it features the AMG Performance steering wheel with integrated buttons that allow drivers to select the regeneration levels. The AMG hybrid-specific displays and functions are integrated into the widescreen MBUX. As far as the equipment goes, it comes with Nappa leather upholstery, open-pore ash wood trim, three-zone climate control, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats and armrests, sunroof, wireless charging pad, augmented reality, power-closing doors, Burmester premium sound system, and 64-color ambient lighting.

Drivers are assisted by the Driving Assistance Package Plus bundle of safety gear, which comprises the Active Lane Change Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Distance Assist, and Pre-Safe Impulse Side, in addition to the nine airbags.

Mercedes-AMG's GT 63 S E Performance is currently on sale at retailers all over the country.
