Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) just reported its August US sales numbers, which are the best this company has had in the past 10 years.
28,106 vehicles were sold last month, an increase of 26.4 percent over last year's August. Year-to-date sales through August are up 6.8 percent versus last year, with 198,026 vehicles sold.

The best sold Mazda was the 3 compact, which had its best month of sales since September 2012 with 11,031 vehicles sold in August 2013. These numbers combine the old and new generation of the 3, since the revolutionary 2014s rolled into dealerships starting on the 21st last month.

The other big parformer was the CX-5, with 8,506 examples last month, an 82.3 percent increase. During the first 8 months of 2013, they sold over 54,000 of these small SUVs, more than in the whole of 2012. The CX-5 has a good chance of becoming Mazda's best-seller.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
