Mazda has revealed more details on its brand new diesel-powered prototype race car, which will be campaigned in the 2014 Tudor United SportsCar Championship.
Unveiled at the “Road Before the 24” test at Daytona International Speedway earlier this month, the vehicle is motivated by a 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D Clean Diesel engine that delivers 450 BHP and and 580 pound-feet of torque to the track via a six-speed sequential Xtrac gearbox operated by paddle shifters.
The diesel race car tips the scales at 1,984 pounds (900 kg) without driver and fuel and reaches a top speed of about 186 miles per hour (300 km/h) in Daytona aero trim.
Two vehicles will enter this year’s Tudor United SportsCar Championship. The No.70 car will be raced by Sylvain Tremblay and Tom Long, while the No.07 car will be manhandled by Joel Miller and Tristan Nunez.
