Mazda’s model range isn’t exactly filled with tens of hot new cars like BMW’s M division, so for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Japanese automaker had to make something different.
What they chose to do is to create a racing MX-5 for the road, which will assault the hillclimb circuit at Goodwood with its powerful engine and stiff setup.
The MX-5 GT is a production-intent concept built by Jota Sport on the hardtop version of the car. It features carbon fiber aerodynamic enhancements, like a front chin spoiler, a rear diffuser, boot lip spoiler, as well as wheelarch extensions. Inside, Jota fitted Recaro seats as well as a number of carbon fiber accents.
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-liter normally aspirated engine that has been boosted from 161 PS to a very inspiring 208 PS.
