Mazda is sticking with what works for this year's edition of the SEMA Show. The MX-5 Speedster they brought out for 2015 is back and looking even better. But the company also brought a friend in the form of the first tuned MX-5 RF. Both were developed in-house at the Irvine design studio, but they should feel right at home in Vegas.
The Miata is Mazda's Mustang, the one car that the entire tuning industry revolves around. There are parts that do everything from adding power to staying safe on the track. However, both these SEMA projects are more like the concepts you'd see at Pebble Beach or a European Concours d'Elegance event, classy and exclusive-looking.

Borrowing style and speed from the Mazda MX-5 Global Cup racecar, as well as elevating Mazda’s iconic and lightweight sports car with premium details, the Speedster looks like a cross between the SLS Stirling Moss and the Aston Martin CC100. The only thing we don't like about it is the fact that you can't buy one.

The design first presented during the 2015 SEMA show has been refined using the Evolution package, which consists of White Ether paint with contrasting black wheels. Approximately 100 lb have been shaved from last year's version, bringing the weight down to under 2,000 lbs or about 350 lbs lighter than a regular production car.

As for the MX-5 RF Kuro concept, it's based on the Retractable Fastback that will be on sale early next year. "Kuro" is the Japanese word for black or charcoal and it's also the name of several special editions so that we might be looking at a preview. Special matte paint was developed for the car and matched with 17×7.5-inch RAYS forged wheels, 215/45R17 BF Goodrich Rival G-Force tires and the adjustable suspension from the Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup.

We're sold on the ninja look, even though it's something everybody can achieve with a wrap. However, we can't help but feel that the Mazda3 and 6 and especially the SUVs are being left out.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
