Those of you who still find the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata as having a design that's too mellow will be thrilled to know the Japanese aftermarket world is working on this. The roadster has been gifted with the now-famous Rocket Bunny kit and we have to admit it looks wilder than one might expect.
Since the TRA Kyoto shop, which is run by a man called Kei Miura, has become famous all around the world thanks to the Rocket Bunny kits, it was only a matter of time until this reached the ND-generation Miata.

However, the front and rear fenders were seriously modified compared to everything we've seen so far. Basically, these elements appeared to have been enlarged, giving the little Mazda a serious wide look. We'll remind you that installing these elements requires cutting into the fenders of the car, so we're talking about a serious job here.

Many Rocket Bunny projects come with generously-sized rear wings and this Mazda is no exception, with its wing being large enough to turn plenty of heads. A just-as-large rollcage completes the scenery.

Given the cage and this aerodynamic elements placed on the lower side of the MX-5, such as the front splitter, side skirt add-on elements and rear diffuser, we expect to be dealing with a time attack contraption here. The competition-style wheels also point to this.

In fact, you can see the machine in complete racing livery in the images above, which come via Jon Sibal.

As for the real deal, you'll be able to see the Rocket Bunny Miata next month, at the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon.

While Mazda has already tried its hand at tuning the ND Miata at this year's SEMA show (more on that topic here), the TRA Kioto development has to be the wildest-looking 2016 MX-5 to date.
