Graphics manipulator Theophilus Chin is the go-to guy for weird-looking Photoshop creations. However, he has really outdone himself this time by taking one of the lightest, lowest cars ever made by a Japanese company and putting it on stilts.
Yes, the MX-5 Cross is weird, but we can't help but love it. You see, every time we do a slow drift using a RWD car on gravel, we're worried about putting scratches into that beautiful paintjob. Well, that's not a problem here, and neither are the speed bumps or the curbs.
As weird as a sportscar with jacked up suspension is, the idea has been floating around the industry for quite some time now. Porsche was last year rumored to launch the 911 Safari edition, paying tribute to its legendary Dakar racers. However, it never materialized.
Subaru also had this idea in November 2013 when it took the Tokyo Auto Show by storm with the Cross Sport Concept, a BRZ Wagon with the same cladding you see on the MX-5.
When the Japanese automaker announced the all-new Miata was lower and sleeker than before, a little voice inside our head said "but that means Range Rover headlights will be at eye level". No such problem with the Cross though. So what if there's extra body roll? Winter is coming and that perfect driving rode… probably isn't perfect any more.
