A week ago, Mazda teased the first photo photo of its upcoming concept for the Geneva Motor Show. We were only shown a small portion of the front end, leaving us to wonder how this compact car would look. The wondering ends today, as through what we lovingly call "leaked info" the Hazumi is being revealed.
Previewing the future subcompact hatchback, a crisp rendering of the car tells us a lot of things. For starters, the rubber on the tires is painted red, which might or might not actually be on the concept. There are no wing mirrors and kist like actual production Mazda the greenhouse is squatted down for dynamism.
Not much is known about when the Mazda2 will enter a new generation, but all signs point to 2015. Unlike the current model which is based on the pre-2007 Ford Fieta, the all-new 2 will be 100% Mazda Skyactiv. Also coming to Geneva is a new 1.5-liter Skyactiv-D diesel engine, which might find its way into the 2 and 3 models. Besides the 1.5-liter diesel, Mazda is sure to fit this new hatchback with 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter petrol engines, one of which is already available with the bigger 3.
Subcompacts are a very competitive market where strong selling points weed out the strong cars. The Fiesta is sporty, the VW Polo is well built and the Skoda Fabia is spacious. But knowing Mazda, they'll try and best all of them.
