Doing something that will go on your record is probably not something many of us would be proud of, but one man from New Jersey appeared awfully proud of himself after he was booked for a massive speeding offense.
At 51 years of age, Eric Joseph doesn’t even have the excuse of youth to fall back on. Trooper First Class Sean Faherty with New Hampshire State Police Special Enforcement Unit caught him doing 142mph in a 65mph zone, which resulted in him being charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
Joseph is due back in court this September, but by the looks of his booking photo, which was made available on the official Facebook of the New Hampshire Trooper's Association, it doesn’t seem like he’s sweating it. If anything, he seems proud of his accomplishment.
The same post about the arrest notes that Joseph was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The Drive notes that “while there's no doubt that the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk can reach such speeds, this is the most extreme case of one doing so on public roads – at least of those caught by the hi-po.”
And here’s yet another funny aspect to the story: asked why he was going at such high rate of speed, Joseph “stated that he was traveling home to New Jersey.” His wife’s cooking must really be something else.
All jokes aside, speeding on the public road is dangerous to both driver and other motorists. Speeding remains one of the leading causes of fatal accidents, while also being entirely preventable. Buying a car that can reach excellent speeds is no reason to actually travel at those speeds when there are well-set limits.
In other words, speed limits are not imposed merely to cramp your style: they’re for everyone’s safety, including your own.
