Perhaps the best news surrounding the release of the current ND-generation Miata came from the fact that Mazda allowed its engineers to go back to the drawing board and come up with a weight reduction in an age when most generation changes result in less scale-friendly sportscars.
And while the range of engines of the fourth-gen Mazda MX-5 means the underpowered nature of the car has evolved, there's still no version that packs a dead serious punch.

Of course, this is where aftermarket developers come into play. From the original NA to the said ND, Miatas have seen V8s forced into their compact engine compartments for years, so here's your answer to the said matter.

Now, we are here to discuss a rendering that portrays an eight-cylinder MX-5. And one of the things that make this pixel play so special is the way in which that GM motor protrudes through the hood - helmet tip to Jota Automotive for this piece.

Heck, even the air filter ensuring that V8 only gets the right stuff is something to behold, with this appearing to be a horn (no, not the honking kind) adorning the nose of the sportscar.

Then there's... the rest of the vehicle. The Japanese toy has gone through a complete transformation. And its new side involves bits like the widebody and rear diffuser, as well as the new cage protection the occupants in case the drifting goes badly - judging by the negative camber angle of the front wheels and the general look of the car, this could turn into a drift build.

Oh, and don't forget all those weight-saving holes, some of which weren't visible on the earlier incarnations of this digital dream.
