The rivalry between the new BMW Z4 M40i and the Porsche Boxster GTS is quite something, especially since the two compete without actually being on the same level.
For one thing, the Zuffenhausen roadster comes with a starting price that's considerably higher compared to the Bavarian drop-top. To be more specific, the first kicks off at around $65,690 while the latter starts at about EUR87,780 (the optional PDK double-clutch tranny accounts for $3,730).

Then again, since these are the highest non-special versions for each car, people will throw them at each other. And this is precisely what brought us here, since we can now enjoy a drag race between the two pieces of Germany.

The hostilities were held by Motorsport Magazine, who came up with a standing kilometer race pitting a Z4 M40i agaist a Boxster GTS fitted with the said PDK tranny.

The Z4 comes with an eight-speed auto, the only tranny available. And since we're talking about the Euro spec, the official output sits at 340 PS rather than the 387 PS the US spec model gets. Then again, independent dyno runs have proved the official numbers are conservative, so we can't fully trust the figure above.

However, one thing we can trust is the real-world weight of the open-top toys, since the magazine has apparently placed them on a scale.

As such, the BMW Z4 weighs in at a meaty 1,586 kg (3,497 lbs), while the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS PDK is a bit friendlier, sitting at 1,452 kg (3,201 lbs).

Thanks to the video below, you'll get to see the sportscars duking it out using a standing start, with driver of the BMW even choosing to set off from a burnout. The clip fortunately involves in-car scenes, so you'll get a pretty clear view of the velocity brawl between the turbo-four Porsche and the also-turbocharged, straight-six BMW.
