Although Lincoln is commonly known as a brand that sells luxury vehicles, Ford says the struggling company is “not true luxury” and that it could take about a decade to get it back where it should be.
“No, we’re not true luxury. We’re in an investment stage with Lincoln. We’ve probably got a 10-year investment to make,” said Ford design chief J Mays following an event at the automaker’s Dearborn campus.
On the other hand, Edmunds’ senior analyst Michelle Krebs says Lincoln “it’s definitely a wanna-be luxury brand”, comparing it to other troubled luxury automakers such as Infiniti and Acura”.
Lincoln’s lineup, which consists of Ford-based vehicles, will be expanded with four brand new models by 2016, including a new C-segment car, a second-generation MKS and an MKC crossover, the company revealed two months ago.
