Cadillac’s latest concept car, the impressive Elmiraj grand coupe that was revealed at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, might become the company’s future large rear-wheel drive sedan.
“Sometimes you go through these exercises to make a design statement,” Cadillac senior vice president Bob Ferguson told Automotive News. “This car is marketable. It’s practical enough to be put through the production process,” he added.
No word on when the production version of the Elmiraj will be launched, but Cadillac’s new flagship sedan is expected to be introduced by 2016. While such a project sounds far fetched at this point, Ferguson claims that a production vehicle based on the automaker’s latest concept car is “very doable”. Hopefully, the Elmiraj won’t have the same fate as the Sixteen and Ciel concepts.
As a reminder, the Elmiraj is powered by a twin-turbo 4.5-liter V8 engine rated at 500 HP and comes with a number of interior luxury materials and technology features, such as camel leather upholstery, hand-cut Brazilian Rosewood trims, a retractable infotainment system and a futuristic instrument cluster.
