Lightweight Porsche Cayman Clubsport Goes on Sale in October

German car manufacturer Porsche gets ready to launch an even sportier version of its recently-facelifted Cayman which is expected to produce much more power than the S version of the car. Still powered by a 3.4-liter flat six engine that develops 320 horsepower, the upcoming Porsche Cayman Clubsport will be much faster than Cayman S thanks to its weight-saving components, according to an Autocar report. Cayman S has a maximum power of 172.1 mph (277 km/h) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.

In short terms, the performance boost will be mainly provided by the reduced lightweight components the new Porsche will boast, including a simpler interior, lightweight body panels plus a less complex lighting system and forged alloy wheels. All these parts reduce the overall curb weight of the vehicle by almost 100 kilos, the aforementioned source wrote.

The Porsche Cayman Clubsport will also feature a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential, both of them available as standard. In terms of styling modifications, the hardcore model will boast a unique body kit with deeper front and rear bumpers plus a fix rear spoiler.

Autocar says the Cayman Clubsport is expected to be officially introduced in October, with the United Kingdom the first market to receive the new model. Even though Porsche did not unveil pricing details, the Clubsport will likely be available for approximately 50,000 pounds.

Powered by a 3.4-liter unit that produces a maximum power of 320 hp and 272.9 lb-ft of torque, the base Cayman S features an overall unladen weight of 3141.6 lbs (1425 kg). The car is equipped with ventilated discs on both the front and the rear side plus a manual 6-speed transmission, similar to the Clubsport variant scheduled for October.
