Boxster and Cayman Pictures Leaked

German car fans rejoice! The guys over at Autoweek got their hands on a set of leaked photos with the the facelifted versions of the Porsche Boxster and his brother, the Cayman. They say thay were obtained from Porsche's website, on a car configurator option.

At first glance, there is no clear distinction between the old models and the new ones, only a trained eye or a Porsche afficionado might be able to spot the subtle differences. The major revisions are centered around the headlights which now have a new shape, also the air intakes have been modified, while the taillights are now restyled and fitted with LED lights. These were probably taken off the 2009 model of the 911.

Porsche also plans to bring a new engine with these cars so maybe that's why the visual changes aren't that important and bedazzling to the untrained eye. These cars, which are said to go on sale starting with the beginning of 2009 will be fitted with a new 2.9 liter engine. This motor will put out somewhere around 265 hp and 222 lb.-ft. of torque.

The S model will receive the same engine with the added feature of a direct injection (can we get an “Amen”?). This move will reportedly boost power to 320 hp and 274 lb.-ft. of torque. This monster of an engine will be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or Porsche's brand-new PDK dual-clutch model.

Porsche must also work on their CO2 emissions if they want to able to sell these cars amongst what has gotten to be a very competitive market. This is the last facelift on either model before the next generation of cars comes out in 2012. The previous changes on the Boxter occurred all the way back in 2002, while for the Cayman they came in 2005. The photos are courtesy of Autoweek.
