Now, that would have been quite a homecoming for a man who was just released from prison. Going into his hometown, driving in a truck carrying 10 brand-new C8 Chevrolet Corvettes, which were reportedly worth $1.25 million. The thief said he didn't care about the sports cars. He just wanted a ride home, and the truck driver wouldn't take him.
Identified as Isaiah Walker, the man had just been released from a prison in Cochise, Arizona, and wanted to get back home. He could not find any other ride but a truck full of brand-new Chevy Corvettes, waiting to be delivered to those who ordered them. The man confessed that he was not interested in the cars transported by the truck at all.

He is now charged with assaulting and robbing the driver of the semi-truck, plus 11 counts of theft of means of transportation: the 10 Chevrolet Corvette examples and the truck that transported them.

According to the police, the thief started a conversation with the driver at the Willcox Loves Truck Stop, but things escalated quickly. The driver tried to climb back into the cab of the truck when the conversation was over. But Walker reportedly grabbed him and knocked him down. He climbed into the vehicle himself, locked the doors, and drove off, traveling north.

A deputy located the stolen semi-truck and tried to pull it over on Ford Grant Road. But Isaiah Walker refused to stop the vehicle and started driving erratically, causing other vehicles to veer off the road. Walker eventually pulled over as he approached County Line Road, and police managed to take him into custody.

The officers from the Cochise County Sheriff's Office asked him why he stole the vehicle. He told them he just wanted to get home, had no other way to do it, and was not interested in the sports cars, even though they had an estimated worth of approximately $1.25 million.

Just released from prison, it looks like Walker is going back in. He was originally from Lawton, Oklahoma, which is located about 785 miles (1,263 kilometers) away from where he stole the truck full of Corvettes. So, his ride would have taken quite a while if it wasn't for the cops. It was obvious that he was not planning to return the truck or turn himself in once he got home.

Following the incident, Wilcox Police Chief Dale Hadfield praises the deputy and officer involved in the chase for showing great restraint and patience in finding a peaceful resolution to a very complicated and risky situation. No other vehicle was damaged in the incident. The semi truck was returned to its driver, who continued on his route. The Corvettes will be handed over to the dealerships and eventually to the customers waiting for them.

A brand-new, entry-level 2024 C8 Chevrolet Corvette starts at $68,300. For the money, the customers get the Stingray version, powered by the 6.2-liter V8 engine, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which steers 490 horsepower (497 metric horsepower) and 464 pound-feet (630 Newton meters) of torque to the rear wheels.

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 starts at $112,700, while the range-topping E-Ray, powered by a hybrid system, is a $104,900 affair.
