It’s one thing to hear about a special edition you really like but can’t buy because it’s too expensive, and an entirely different case when the only reason you can't get it is because it’s only available in other countries. Well, thank god for trans-Atlantic shipping companies, right?
The Jeep Cherokee was the one Jeep model that had even the brand’s die-hard fans split into two opposing groups. It was all down to its exterior design or, to be more precise, the admittedly weird front end. More than a year after the model’s design was uncovered, there are still people who don’t know what to make of it.

But Jeep seems to be content with allowing them enough time to make up their minds. In the meantime, it’s releasing a special and limited edition of this controversial model it baptized “Night Eagle.” As the name suggests, we’re to expect touches that will enhance the car’s aggressive looks.

And so it delivers. The 350-unit limited run will come with satin-finished elements on the front grille-mounted Jeep badge, the fog light frames, black gloss roof bars, and Night Eagle badges. The exterior comes in four possible colors - Brilliant Black, Bright White, Billet Silver, and Granite Crystal - that can complement or contrast with the tinted sunscreen glass and the 18-inch black gloss alloy wheels.

The Night Eagle is based on the Longitude “Plus” mid-trim level, so the special edition adds quite a few options on the interior. There’s an exclusive leather upholstery for the seats and steering wheel, a nine-speaker sound system with a subwoofer, electric tailgate and the Uconnect system with an 8.4-inch screen.

This special edition Cherokee is powered by the new 2.2-liter MultiJet II turbo diesel engine with 200 hp, working together with the nine-speed automatic transmission and Active Drive | 4x4 system. These specs allow the new Cherokee to offer more than decent dynamic performance figures for a car in its class - 127 mph (205 km/h) top speed and 8.5 seconds for the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint - while continuing to go light on the fuel: 41.3 US mpg (5.7 l/100 km) for the combined cycle.

The Jeep Cherokee Black Eagle edition will cost £36.795 (the equivalent of €52,295 or $55,453) and goes on sale this week.
