The global downturn has affected the automotive world in infinit ways, with the consequences ranging from certain models’ disappearance to the killing of entire brands. However, the vehicles didn’t choose to go down without a fight. The best example is the one offered by the go-fast segments of the market, which seem to be laughing in the financial crisis’ face.
It’s easy to see how the last few years have brought us more and more performance vehicles belonging to multiple segments of the market. Now, it’s Nissan’s turn to enter this battle and we are here to see what the carmaker intends to do.
As you know Infiniti, Nissan’s premium brand, used this year’s edition of the Paris Auto Show to introduce the Infiniti Performance Line (IPL), the company’s go-fast division. The company launched the IPL arm by offering special incarnations of the G coupe and G cabrio models.
Now, the company is evaluating the potential development directions for the future of the performance division, as Autocar reports.
The executives are analyzing every possibility, as the IPL could stick to offering “warmer” versions of company cars, produce aerodynamic and tech parts or even give birth to true performance monsters that would enter the carmaker’s range, just like Mercedes’ AMG or BMW’s M divisions do.
We’ll have to wait and see if Infiniti wants to join the big boys’ fight and offer proper performance cars. We’ll remind you that one of the company’s main rivals, Lexus, has already made this step, offering the IS F hot saloon and the LFA supercar.
