While it seems like a lifetime ago, it was only 2013 – a decade ago – when BMW spun off its two-door coupe and convertible models from the iconic 3 Series. Since then, the 4 Series has become a staple of compact executive sporty cars, of course.
Interestingly, for BMW, it was not enough to give it a new moniker – starting with the G22/23/26 second generation of the 4 Series, it also received a completely new visual identity characterized by the fresh (or rotten, depending on your POV) treatment bestowed upon the legendary kidney grille. Some likened the design to a double coffin, others to beaver tooth, and the rest of the jokes are history, of course.

But there's also an interpretation that does not care much about the looks – the G82/83 BMW M4. The high-performance version keeps the awkward shape of the kidney grille and changes the mesh with slats in a bid to improve cooling and also the looks. Well, it's debatable if there's any salvation for the current series – but at least you cannot blame BMW for the lack of trying.

In effect, the second-generation M4 was treated to many derivatives – Competition with or without M Performance Parts, M4 x KITH, CSL, 3.0 CSL, and of course, the M4 BMW M 50th anniversary. However, keen observers and diehard fans will notice something missing – the predecessor's M4 GTS variant is currently without a correspondent in the G82/83 series. Well, at least in the real world.

Meanwhile, across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, that was recently rectified by the UK-based 3D automotive concept artist better known as AVANTE (aka avante.design_ on social media), who has decided to create a fresh G82 M4 GTS kit project. According to the author, his first impression of the M4 was negative. Still, in time, his opinion changed to believing it looks "soo" aggressive – which he tried to emphasize with the unofficial M4 GTS transformation.

Frankly, he may have overdone it a little bit – in the best possible way. Note how the kidney grille has additional leverage via the lower air ducts, how the front bumper doubles up the vertical lines, and how the larger front splitter easily connects the styling with the side sills. Around the back, the changes were subtler: an extra pair of vents, a larger diffuser with more prominent elements, slightly modified exhaust outlets, and a big wing perched atop the trunk lid.

Oh, and let us not forget about the larger dual-tone aftermarket-style wheels. All in all, it's not a bad treatment – and it's also something that BMW might implement in real life if it ever decided to bring out a GTS variant down the line. Until then, we can only dream of this wishful thinking kit project and also check out all the minute differences compared to the 'normal' M4 because there's also a quick comparo feature embedded second below.
