Meanwhile, the Porsche Cayman saga – which started a little later in 2005 – continues even today, with the 718 Cayman (of the 982 series) now also a four-pot (of the flat-four variety, though) and one of the most beloved posh European sports cars out there. It does come with a few major differences compared to the Japanese hoot, though.
First of all, the S2000 is a roadster while the Cayman is a fastback coupe. Secondly, the Honda sports car has a traditional front-engine RWD powertrain, while the base Porsche two-door wants nothing, but mid-engine glory. Alas, things can easily get reshuffled, albeit only at a virtual level. So, here is an interesting case in point.
Henry Andrus (formerly Andrews), a virtual artist better known as photo.chopshop on social media, has a prolific imagination when it comes to mashups, including Euro-JDM ones. This pixel master usually dabbles with everything outrageous, but from time to time, especially when European and Japanese CGI mixes are involved, he strikes digital gold.
Such is the case here, according to the channel’s fans, with this long-hooded Honda S2000 x Porsche Cayman, a virtual mashup that seems to imply that in an alternate universe these two companies could have easily done the same as Toyota and BMW with their Z4 and GR Supra siblings. Alas, on this occasion, they would not have gone through the trouble of producing two distinct cars.
