Honda has revealed the first photos and details regarding a brand new 6-seater estate model called the Jade. The passenger car will go on sale come February 13 and by the looks of things, it will be offered exclusively as a hybrid.
Customer exhibitions will be held this weekend in Chiba City at the Tokyo Auto Salon. By the looks of things, the Jade will never be offered in Europe and America, but you never know.

From the outside, the Jade resembles the City sedan. Its headlights are tapered and joined by a large grille. It's not spectacular from the back either, though we'd stop short of calling it boring. Inside, the cabin reminds us of French MPVs. The speed is displayed on a screen place on top of the dash, giving the cabin a more airy feel.

Another highlight of the new Jade is the Honda SENSING assistance system borrowed from the Legend. It uses a camera sensor located at the top of the windshield to detect vehicles in front and warn you if you're about to crash into them. This combines Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow.

From our understanding, the Jade is based on the platform of the Honda Steam, another MPV. That makes it a close relative of the Civic. Under the bonnet is a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter direct-injected four-banger with a 29.5 PS electric motor. The whole thing is sandwiched together with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Yes, it's the same powertrain they use on the Fit/Jazz and the Vezel/HR-V.

Since 2013, it has been produced in China by the Dongfeng Honda joint venture. However, the Chinese model features a 4-seat layout, whereas the Japanese car has two extra seats in the trunk.
