Holden is planning to introduce a dedicated LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) version of the Commodore later this year. In preparation for the vehicle’s release, Holden Energy and Environment Director Richard Marshall will address the PG Australia National Conference today.
"The introduction of a dedicated LPG system will enhance Australia’s most popular car by providing customers with engine technology that combines all the driving characteristics of a petrol vehicle, with the cost and environmental advantages that accompany LPG,” the executive says.
The event, which is being held in Canberra, features government and industry leaders discussing the future of the aforementioned alternative fuel.
Marshall will emphasize the need to convince consumers to adopt LPG and explain some of the benefits offered by this Australian fuel as the demand for petroleum is following an increasing trend.
“Holden’s strategy to reduce Australia’s dependence on petroleum consists of two pillars – energy efficiency and energy diversity. This puts our country in a unique position to take advantage of our abundant LPG resources and to provide more affordable transportation into the future,” Marshall explains.
“LPG offers drivers significant benefits - including reduced running costs and a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 15 per cent, when compared to driving on petrol. It currently accounts for around 6 per cent of our national transport fuel usage, but we have the potential to dramatically increase the take-up by Australian drivers.”
The LPG Commodore will be included in the automotive producer’s Ecoline range of vehicles that come with fuel saving technologies or use alternative fuels.
