Last year, Maruti Suzuki was planning to make the petrol version of the WagonR a top priority, in order to cater to the larger market share, before moving to other variants. Now, an official dedicated website for the Indian-built car is announcing the petrol-LPG dual-fuel variant as well.
The recently-launched site is meant as a sort of brochure, highlighting the model’s main features and the factory-fitted LPG tank that takes up less space in the trunk than other variants. The new WagonR Duo also comes with a host of new technologies to incorporate the dual fuel option.
Safety features include a special module that cuts fuel supply in case of a leak or an accident. The 2011 Duo model will also come with two ECUs, one for each fuel option, working in tandem via a Controller Area Network(CAN) system that effortlessly toggles between the two fuels through a dashboard mounted switch. All this technical language simply means that the WagonR Duo can switch between two modes of fuel at the push of a button.
As LPG is more corrosive than regular petrol, especially for the engine components, some parts of the 1.0-liter K-Series engine needed changing. A new feature on the car is the LPG filling nozzle, which is neatly recessed into the main filler cap of the WagonR Duo, unlike on other such cars that have it sticking out of the bodywork.
A remark made by Maruti officials last year was that the rear bench on the new model was designed to offer additional comfort to the rear passengers. It looks like this is indeed the case, given the fact that boot volume has been sacrificed, as it is not the vehicle’s main priority.
